4 Entrepreneurship Track Options

Tech Entrepreneurship

The Tech Entrepreneur track combines 28 units of computer science courses with core business courses in marketing, organizational management, entrepreneurial finance, and biblical studies.

This track is designed to equip the next generation of emerging tech entrepreneurs to take their ideas from dreams to reality in the marketplace. Working with your advisors and business mentor, you will customize the track to prepare for a business launch in your specialty. You will learn how to develop a minimum viable product, beta-test your concept, and develop a marketing and business plan that can be presented to investors.

Small Business Entrepreneurship

The Small Business (for-profit) track includes electives in marketing, organizational management, entrepreneurial finance, and biblical studies, designed to help the next generation of emerging entrepreneurs bring their ideas to the marketplace.

This track is general enough for students who aim to be business owners but may also venture into multiple concepts as serial entrepreneurs. You will learn to grow your ventures from the ground up into financially sound entities with a distinctly biblical perspective. You will learn how to develop a minimum viable product, as well as an effective marketing and business plan that can be taken to investors.

Non-Profit Entrepreneurship

This track examines the benefits and opportunities available in the not-for-profit sector, including tax advantages, grants, and other government-funded options. TMU alumni have launched their careers in other countries where the “tent-maker” ministry creates a unique inroad to the hearts of that local community.

This track is also ideal for a non-government organization (NGO) path, equipping students to grow ventures from the ground up into financially sound entities with a distinctly biblical “others-minded” perspective. This track is also a good fit for those interested in church planting.

Media Production Entrepreneurship

This track partners with our Communication Department to design 24 units specifically geared toward the media and production space.

Working with your faculty advisers, you will customize the track to prepare you for a business launch in your specialty space. From web-based businesses, social media influencers, video or audio production entities, or any other media-based firms, the goal is to grow ventures into financially sound entities with a distinctly biblical perspective. You will learn how to develop a minimum viable product, beta-test that concept, and develop a marketing and business plan that can be taken to investors. You will gain experience in discussing, planning, and developing ideas into real businesses that will make a lasting impact in your community.

Program Details

Overview

Most entrepreneurship programs teach you to spot opportunities and maximize profit. TMU teaches you to create value and serve others, balancing risk with wisdom and integrity, because a business is a calling to glorify Christ. You learn in a cohort of founders with a faculty advisor, volunteer business mentors from Southern California companies, and access to faith-based investment networks. You finish with a business plan you’ve pitched to real investors, not a term paper.

Students study in a cohort model that enables them to progress through major courses together and challenge one another, as iron sharpens iron. Faculty advisors mentor students through their chosen focus tracks, which include Technology, Entertainment, Non-Profit, or Small Business. The program also offers an accelerated, flexible hybrid three-year curriculum, with opportunities to work with volunteer business mentors and faith-based investment networks. The program culminates with a capstone business plan that students present to a panel of Christian investors.

The Entrepreneurship major comprises 13 major courses, totaling 39 semester units.

Students must complete one unit of BIB101 per semester, up to a total of 4 semesters.
Optional Electives: Students may select up to 22 units of electives based on their interests. Consult an advisor to determine an appropriate elective block.

Accelerated 3-Year Hybrid Track

This innovative B.A. degree can be completed as a 4-year undergraduate program, or in as little as 3 years on the accelerated hybrid track.

Minor in Biblical Studies

Students typically earn a minor in Biblical Studies within the standard Entrepreneurship curriculum by completing 24 units in Bible courses. The curriculum includes the following:

B121: Essentials of Christian Thought (3 units)
B201, B202: New Testament Survey I & II (6 units)
BTH321, BTH322: Christian Theology I & II (6 units)
Bible Elective of your choice (3 units)

This combination provides a comprehensive foundation in biblical knowledge and theological study, complementing your communication degree.

Study & Serve Abroad

TMU offers numerous study-abroad options, ranging from semester programs in Israel to summer and winter trips.

IBEX: Study the Bible for a whole semester in the land where the Bible was written.
Italy: Spend 6 weeks studying language, art, and culture in Florence.
