This was the first dorm constructed when the university moved to its current location in the 1960s. It was dedicated on April 30, 1965, to Dr. Herbert Hotchkiss, “No man ever deserved to be memorialized in connection with an educational institution more than Herbert Hotchkiss.”
Reagan and his wife, Julie, have been married since June of 2020. They originally moved to Los Angeles from Oregon in 2017 to attend TMU as students. After Reagan graduated TMU, he continued his education at TMS. Reagan’s goal is to go into full-time pastoral ministry. As a student, Reagan was in Hotchkiss and served on dorm staff, so his love for Hotchkiss has been increasing every year. His favorite Bible verse is 2 Timothy 2:15.
Julie graduated from TMU with her bachelor’s degree in biblical counseling. During her time at TMU she lived in C.W. Smith Hall and Dixon Hall. She participated in TMU’s IBEX program and served as a WA and an RA. Julie is passionate about discipleship and loves spending time with people. She is always down for an adventure. Julie is pursuing her MABC and finishing up her ACBC certification. Her favorite Bible verse is Jude 1:24.
Hotchkiss Dorm is a two-story building in the shape of an “H”. The lounge is a great place to build relationships, hang out, play board games, study, play ping pong, and have movie nights. The RDs love having the students over in their apartments for fun and fellowship. We love using our “Hotchyard” in the back and are excited to utilize the fountain area for hangouts. There is a central lounge on the first story and two apartments for the Resident Directors on the second story. There are eight wings, four men’s and four women’s, divided by the lounge on the first floor and by the Resident Directors’ apartments on the second. The wings are equipped with several showers, restrooms, and laundry facilities. Each dorm room is fully furnished for two students including beds, built-in shelving, drawers, closet space, and desks. The rooms have individual heater/air-conditioner units. The wings are referred to as “Upper-Back,” “Lower-Back,” “Upper-Front,” and “Lower-Front.”
Family. Tradition. Heart.
Apple Pie Night: An evening when a small team from Hotchkiss makes roughly 60-70 pies and the whole dorm gets together to eat them with vanilla ice cream. They collect apples as a dorm for weeks leading up to it.
Hotchkiss Luau: The final dorm event at Dockweiler Beach, every April, where they play games, have a sandcastle competition, grill, make s’mores, and crown the Hotchkiss King and Queen. Mistletoe Madness: The annual Christmas Ping Pong tournament! Whether you are skilled in the mastery of table tennis or not, it’s one of our most unifying dorm events that lasts a whole week.
