Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities
Marius Bahnean is an Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at The Master’s University. He leads the TMU Chorale and University Singers and teaches conducting courses, music history, and aural skills. Before joining TMU, Bahnean was an Associate Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities, and Chair of the Department of Fine Arts and Communication Studies at Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens, Tennessee.
An enthusiastic advocate for Early and baroque music, Bahnean frequently performs with period instrument ensembles, often conducting from the keyboard. His recent scholarly pursuits include the full reconstruction of Christoph Graupner’s Passion Cantatas and in-depth research into Medieval and Renaissance music from England. As a dedicated musicologist, he has recently presented at international conferences in Brașov, Romania.
Bahnean is also a member of the prestigious Oxbridge C.S. Lewis Institute Choir, based at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Renowned for his expertise in conducting both choirs and orchestras, he has trained under distinguished mentors such as Ivars Taurins and Jeanne Lamon of the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir, Stephen Cleobury of King’s College, Cambridge, Howard Dyck, John Dickson, and Alice Parker. His vocal studies were completed under the guidance of tenor William Hite and Grammy-nominated mezzo-soprano Laura Pudwell.
Marius and his wife, Alina, are blessed parents of one daughter.
The Master's University Chorale is an auditioned choir under the direction of Dr. Marius Bahnean. The Chorale includes students from across the United States and around the world who represent of almost every academic major at the university.
