On-Campus Housing Details

What Furnishings Are Provided for Each Student?

  • Bed with Mattress (extra-long twin)
  • Wardrobe and Dresser
  • Desk and Chair
  • Hardwood or Carpeting (depending on the dorm)
  • Vertical or Mini Blinds
  • Communal Microwave on Each Wing

What Should I Bring?

  • Bedding (extra-long twin sheets, pillows, and blankets), Towels and Washcloths
  • Shower Caddy and Shoes
  • Alarm Clock, Hangers and Wastebasket
  • Utensils and a Few Dishes (depending on how much snacking you’ll be doing in your dorm)
  • Laundry Baskets, Detergents, and Rolls of Quarters for Laundry (the machines also take credit cards if you prefer)
  • Plastic Crates or Storage Bins

Additional Items to Consider Bringing

  • Small Non-Halogen Lamp
  • Iron and Clothes Drying Rack
  • Hanging Shoe Rack
  • Decoration items (use sticky-tack)
  • Automatic Shut-Off Hot Pot and/ or Coffee Maker (UL listed, no open coil)
  • Secure Bicycle Lock (U-locks recommended)
  • Refrigerator 3.6 cubic feet or smaller (only one is permitted per room, so you may want to check with your roommate or wait to buy one until you are here.)

What Should I Not Bring?

  • Drapes, Curtains, or Other Window Treatments
  • Pets Besides Goldfish or Tropical Fish (aquarium limited in size to less than 20 gallons with stand) with Roommates’ Approval
  • Microwaves, Toasters, Hot Plates, Rice Cookers, Instant Pots, Slow Cookers, Etc.
  • TVs larger than 40 inches.
  • Waterbeds
  • Upholstered Furniture (due to fire laws)
  • Nails, Tacks, Adhesive Hooks, Picture Hangers or Screws
  • Combustible Items (no lit candles or incense are allowed in residence halls)
  • Posters or decorations that promote or endorse any actions that violate the policies of The Master’s University.

What Can I Do to Personalize My Room?

Adhesive putty and other temporary mounting products may be used for decorating as long as no damage results. Any damage to walls, doors, or room surfaces will result in a charge and must be repaired by facilities management. Students should not try to make repairs themselves.

What Laundry Facilities Are Available?

Each dorm has coin-operated and credit card-equipped machines. A washing machine load will cost $2.00, and a dryer load will cost $2.00.

What If I Forget Something?

Don’t worry! The campus is within three miles of Walmart and Target.

 

Housing Preferences

How Do I Indicate My Dorm or Roommate Preference?

You must select your dorm and roommate preferences during pre-registration using our housing portal masters.erezlife.com.

Please note that the housing committee cannot guarantee preferences. We try our best to honor requests and want to serve everyone in the best way possible.

Can I Find Out What My Dorm Is Or Who My Roommate Is?

You will receive an email with your dorm and roommate assignment about 2 months before your arrival on campus.

Please be aware that while the Housing Committee takes everyone’s requests into consideration, they will be granted based on priority and registration date. If you have any questions or concerns about housing after that time, we would be happy to help you when you arrive to check in.

Are there Single Rooms Available?

No, but we are sure you will enjoy the community in the dorms!

How Many Roommates Will I Have?

This depends on what dorm or canyon home you are living in. Most of our dorm rooms accommodate two students. Slight, however, has a different configuration and is able to accommodate four to five students per room. Canyon Homes also varies from accommodating two-six students per room depending on the home and size of the room.

What Do I Do If I Have Questions About Housing Placement?

Can I Live Off-Campus?

Students are eligible to apply for off-campus housing if they meet at least one of the following qualifications: living with parents, married, an academic senior, or at least 22 years of age. Every year, you must complete an application that will be reviewed by the Deans’ Office in order to receive approval to live off-campus.

The application can be found on the housing portal: masters.erezlife.com. Please allow two weeks for processing once submitted.

Dorm Check-In and Check-Out Times

When Can I Arrive On Campus as a New Student?

Fall Semester – you will arrive on the first day of WOW. Go to masters.edu/wow for more details.

Spring Semester – you will arrive on the Tuesday morning before the Truth & Life Conference starts.

When Can I Move Back as a Returning Student Into the Dorms?

Fall Semester – Returning students can check into their dorms a few days before the beginning of the semester. Check the master calendar or contact Student Life for more information.

Spring Semester – Returning students can check into their dorms beginning at 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Tuesday or Wednesday before the Truth & Life Conference.

Can I Move Into Or Return to the Dorm Early?

Because of our staff training schedules, we will not be able to accommodate an early arrival for either semester.

Can I Stay in the Dorms During Fall/Thanksgiving/Christmas/spring Break?

The dorms will be closed for the Christmas break from the Friday of finals week until the first day of the Truth & Life Conference. No students will be allowed to stay in the dorms during this time.

The dorms will remain open during the fall, thanksgiving and spring breaks. However, be aware that Mustang Grill will be closed during these times.

Do I Have to Completely Move Out of My Dorm During fall/Thanksgiving/Christmas/spring break?

No, you will only have to completely move out of your room during May checkout.

What if I Have Been Asked to Return Early for Athletics or Student Life Leadership?

If you are returning as a part of an athletics team or have been asked to return early as a part of the Student Life leadership staff, be sure to arrive on the day assigned to you. If you do not know what day to return, please consult with your director or coach.

What If I am Returning for a Winterim Class?

If you have registered for a Winterim class and need housing during this time, please sign up through your Student Portal by the Friday before finals week. Students arriving on campus for Winterim can check-in with the Guard Shack within the timeframe designated by Student Life the day before your Winterim class begins. Students who sign up for Winterim after the semester ends may still sign up for housing but will be charged a late fee of $50.

What if I am Returning From IBEX for the Spring Semester?

You will receive your housing placement when you arrive on campus to move in.

Do You Offer Summer Housing?

Summer housing is available only to those taking a post-session class, working on campus, or participating in athletics, The Master’s Chorale, or a GO trip. Sign ups will be available during the March class registration period.

 

Other

Can I Have Instruments in the Dorms?

Only guitars are permitted to be played in the dorms. Students can contact the School of Music about using their practice rooms for all other instruments.

Can I Bring a TV?

Students may bring a TV monitor no larger than 40 inches for entertainment and gaming purposes. Cable and satellite TVs are not permitted.

Do You Offer Any Storage On Campus?

No, we do not offer any storage facilities on-campus, including refrigerators and bikes.

Do I Have a Campus Mailbox? How Do I Find Out My Mailbox Number?

Yes, all traditional TMU undergraduate students (including off-campus students) have a TMU mailbox located in the student center. The mail room will assign each student a mailbox number at the beginning of the school year. You can find this on Content Management under the “Mailbox Info” tab.

Spring WOW

When Can I Arrive On Campus as a New Student Coming in the Spring?

New students will be welcomed for check-in the Monday before the Truth & Life Conference.

Where Can I Check In On Campus?

Check-ins will be occurring in King Hall, our Student Life Department building, located across the street from the gym.

Continuing Students Returning in the Spring

When Can I Move Back Into the Dorms?

Returning students can check into their dorms beginning at 9 am on Wednesday of the Truth & Life Conference.

What if I Am Returning For Winterim?

You can register for Winterim courses through your self-service account. If you need housing during this time please come to King Hall to sign up for housing by Friday of finals week. Students arriving on campus for Winterim can check in with the Guard Shack after 1 pm the day before your Winterim class begins. Students who sign up for Winterim after the semester ends may sign up for housing when King Hall reopens in January but will be charged a late fee of $20.

What if I Have Been Asked to Return Early for Athletics or Servant Leadership?

If you are returning as a part of an athletics team or have been asked to return early as a part of the Servant Leadership staff, be sure to arrive on the day assigned to you. If you do not know what day to return, please consult with your supervisor or coach.

What if I am an International or Out-of-State Student?

We understand that traveling from out of the state or the country can be a challenge with flight times. As such, we allow these students to arrive up to a day before their scheduled check-in slot. If you would like to take advantage of this accommodation for arrival, please notify your RD before the Christmas break begins.

Do I Need to Attend the Truth & Life Conference?

The Truth & Life Conference is a dynamic opportunity for learning truth and for fellowship. Trust us, you won’t want to miss it. Truth & Life is considered a part of our chapel program, as such, chapel attendance will be taken for the main sessions of the conference, 7 in total.
