The Master’s University’s third full-length feature film is slated for a theatrical release this fall, with a special run of showings planned at the Laemmle Theater in Old Town Newhall. The film will run from Oct. 23 through Nov. 5, giving TMU’s community the opportunity to enjoy, on the big screen, the fruits of the University’s Cinema & Digital Arts program.

The sequel follows TMU’s second feature film, “The Descent,” which takes place during the prophetic end times described in Revelation 9. Approximately 50 students were involved in this project across both production and post-production roles.

For the students, this film gave them the opportunity to discover and polish their skills in the context of a real feature-length project. Prof. Matt Green, chair of TMU’s CDA program, said that shooting during spring break allowed the students to focus completely on making the most of that experience.

“You get to see students in a unique situation, because they have no other classes — their only focus is this movie,” Green said.

In addition, Green said that this project was the perfect opportunity for CDA faculty to identify students who excel in particular areas and allow them to take on greater responsibilities in future productions. For example, the program has included a student-producer role since its first feature film, “The Man from Nowhere,” providing students with experience in professional production roles while working alongside faculty and industry professionals.

The CDA program integrates multiple classes into TMU’s feature-film projects. “The Descent Part II” involved courses focused on production, cinematography, post-production, marketing and journalism, with the film project giving students from any major the opportunity to practice fundamental media skills in a real-world context.
