A lot has changed at The Master’s University over the last 100 years, even while the most important things have stayed the same. Tour some of the landmark events of the last century through our interactive timeline!

Our institution’s founders, led by Dr. William Matthews, built a school that would reject compromise and hold fast to Christ and Scripture.
J. J. Rutherford’s business skill and dedication to the advancement of LABTS were instrumental in its early years.

The Hotchkiss family not only helped save LABTS from extinction, but demonstrated sacrificial service and wholehearted trust in the Lord.
In 1947, Dr. Milton Fish heard that Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary was in serious trouble. So, he moved his life to Los Angeles to help keep the vision of LABTS alive.

Longtime president Dr. John Dunkin moved LABC to Newhall and laid the foundation for what would become The Master’s University.
Thomas Price’s career at LABTS, LABC, and TMC was emblematic of what it meant to serve at the school in those days: working multiple roles for little pay, all while trusting that the Lord would faithfully bring good fruit out of that sacrifice.

In 1966, Robert Bross (a chicken farmer and LABC trustee) donated more than $250,000 (roughly $2.5 million in today’s dollars) for the construction of what is today known as The MacArthur Center and Bross Court.
Tasked with building LABC’s athletic department from the ground up, Pete Reese never balked at the challenge — or the hard work it involved.

During his time at LABC, Dolphus Weary made a significant impact on the campus and helped transform the basketball program into a daunting opponent, the team averaging more than 100 points per game during the 1968-69 season.
Harriet Ishii’s vibrantly joyful service to LABC and heart for global missions left a lasting impact on those who knew her.

Dr. Peter Kobe joined the faculty of Los Angeles Baptist College in 1968. By the time he left the school in 1976, he had changed the music department forever.
Dr. Hermann Austel served in academia for 58 years, and he was even part of the translation committee of the New American Standard Bible. Throughout his life, his great faithfulness to the Lord was evident to everyone around him.

Dr. John MacArthur providentially arrived at a pivotal time in the school’s history, safeguarding its mission and forever changing its trajectory.
Dr. Bob Provost played a vital role in the early years of TMC, laboring to build a campus culture where each student understood their calling to be an ambassador of Christ, whether at home or abroad.

Through all of the changes since 1970, Dr. John Stead has helped tether TMU to its mission by modeling love for Christ and His people.
Betty Price arrived at TMC in 1985, and for the next 40 years she taught at least one Bible class for women every semester. During her time at the school, she impacted the lives of innumerable women eager to study Scripture more deeply.
