The Master’s University is adding a new minor in financial planning, designed to equip students of any major with the preparation necessary to pursue a career as financial advisors. This fall, students can begin planning to incorporate the minor into their degree, with the program scheduled to launch fall 2026.
According to Dr. John Beck, dean of TMU’s School of Business and Communication, the motive for this new program lies in the unique economic situation today’s generation exists in, with “an unprecedented transfer of generational wealth” currently happening in the United States as Baby Boomers pass their wealth to their children and grandchildren.
In light of this, Beck believes the need to equip believers to excel as financial advisors for the glory of Christ “has never been greater.” He says, “The profession is an onramp to marketplace ministry for our graduates because it opens a door to give counsel to people in one of the most important areas of their lives.”
TMU’s newest minor is composed of 18 units that offer thorough preparation for a future in financial planning. In addition to courses like Investment Planning and Fundamentals of Financial Planning and Insurance, students will also participate in a professional internship, giving them hands-on experience in the industry.
“We see this as an interesting direction for Bible majors who may desire bi-vocational engagement to support their ministries in the local church while also gaining valuable avenues for outreach,” Beck says.
But more broadly, Beck says preparing students for a career in financial advising “is strategic and mission aligned, because it will provide our graduates with an onramp for gospel conversations and disciple making.”
