Dr. Varner is a distinguished educator and scholar with a storied career spanning decades. He was honored with the prestigious Distinguished Teaching Award/Teacher of the Year in 1999, 2005, and 2012 and has been listed in Who’s Who in Education and America since 1998. His academic achievements include receiving the Academic Prize at Biblical Theological Seminary and graduating as Valedictorian from Dropsie College.
With seven years of pastoral experience, Dr. Varner also served as Director of the Institute of Biblical Studies at Friends of Israel. For 22 years, he led The Master’s University’s IBEX program, during which he made an impressive 51 trips to the Holy Land. A prolific author, he has written 20 books and contributed over 100 articles to journals and magazines. In 2022, his work and legacy were celebrated with a Festschrift—a collection of essays penned by former students and faculty colleagues.
Dr. Varner is a long-standing member of the Evangelical Theological Society. In his personal life, he enjoys studying the Civil War and traveling with his wife of over 50 years, Helen. His dedication to teaching, scholarship, and faith inspires those around him.
