Graduation Contract

Start Graduation Contract Commencement Day

Students intending to graduate must start a graduation contract. The student initiates this process. The contract declares intent to graduate on a certain date and allows the Registrar’s Office to collect the necessary graduation information from the student. It also provides a method to specify exactly what coursework will be required of the student during his/her final year/semester. Once completed and signed, this form is a contract between the student, his/her advisor, and the Registrar’s Office.

Note: This contract must be finalized by the end of the Fall semester before the Spring ceremony, or a late fee of $75 will be charged before contract finalization.

The Graduation contract is a 4-STEP process:

GRADUATION CONTRACT

STEP 1: Start your Graduation Contract Application.

  • Required for all graduating students.
  • We encourage students to apply during the spring semester of their junior year.

STEP 2: Plan your last requirements in Stellic with your advisor.

STEP 3: Registrar approval – we’ll reach out to approve or ask questions about your plan.

STEP 4: Sign and finalize the graduation contract. Due prior to end of the fall semester before the commencement ceremony in May.

GRADUATION FEE

The Graduation fee is required in order to participate in commencement and/or receive a diploma. A $75 late fee will begin at the end of the fall semester.

Pay the GRADUATION FEE

Graduation Requirements

The Master’s University grants bachelor’s degrees (i.e., Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, and Bachelor of Science) to students who satisfy the graduation requirements described below:

  • Minimum unit requirement:
    • 2023-2024 Academic Catalog and prior: complete a minimum of 122 semester units of credit.
    • 2024-2025 Academic Catalog and later: complete a minimum of 121 semester units of credit.
  • Complete a minimum of 40 semester units in upper division courses.
  • Satisfy all General Education requirements.
  • Complete the required curriculum for the chosen major field(s) of study.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.00 (cumulative) in all TMU courses. (Some majors have different GPA requirements. Please see individual departments for details.)
  • Complete a minimum of 32 semester units at TMU, not including Directed Studies coursework.
  • A maximum of 12 units can be transferred to complete degree requirements after the last 12 units taken at TMU.

Please note that degree requirements within each major are determined by the departmental faculty. Many majors feature a variety of emphases that may have different unit requirements for graduation. Progress toward fulfillment of these major requirements is monitored by departmental faculty and by the Registrar through graduation contracts.

Students are held to the unit requirements within general education and their major/emphasis according to the Academic Catalog under which they initially enter The Master’s University. This applies, as well, to those students whose continuous enrollment is interrupted and then return to the university.

Graduation Honors

Granted at graduation to students who have completed at least 60 semester units at The Master’s University and have attained the following cumulative grade point average:

  • Summa cum laude 3.85
  • Magna cum laude 3.65
  • Cum laude 3.50

Commencement vs. Graduation

The Commencement Ceremony is the celebration of your hard work towards graduation. Graduation, the official awarding of your degree, will occur when all your degree requirements are met.

Commencement Ceremony

Commencement ceremonies are held once a year with the conclusion of the spring semester in May. Students who finish their degree in the fall semester will receive their degree immediately and are invited to walk in commencement exercises the following May.

Visit Commencement Exercises for all information about the day’s events, including location, live streaming, vendors, and information for guests.

Diploma

Receipt of diploma can be expected within 9 weeks of your final semester ending (this includes 1 week for final grades to be posted, 4-6 weeks for your degree to be posted, 1-2 weeks for the diploma to be received).

Note: delays occur due to campus closure and holidays. Fall semester processing can expect 2-3 additional weeks.

If your address has changed, you must contact  so that your diploma arrives at the correct location.
