The Agriculture Club at TMU was designed for students who have an interest or background in farming. The club brings those students together to work toward common goals and grow in agricultural knowledge and experience. Photos by Kaylani Seto.
What was once a small group of six has grown to over 100 members. Operating out of a two-acre farm property and other TMU-owned parcels, the Agriculture Club is experimenting with new crops and livestock, including pigs, chickens, and goats.
Since its creation, the club has worked hard to cultivate the farm. These efforts have yielded fruits, vegetables, pork, and eggs.
The farm and club are overseen by Blake Spomer, TMU’s agribusiness program coordinator. When asked what the goal of the Agriculture Club is, he said, “Our guiding mission statement, or vision, is to sow the seeds of knowledge and passion for agriculture.”
Says Spomer, “We want Christians to be equipped to support agriculture efforts in developing countries, or to step into the world’s wealthiest agriculture communities. We want Christians all over the world who are knowledgeable in their field and passionate about it, and who can be salt and light in those places.”
