Menlo College Volleyball Tournament Recap

Atherton, CA – At the end of two days at the Menlo College Tournament, the no. 9 nationally ranked Master’s College volleyball team’s overall record sits at an impressive 10-2.
#9 The Master’s College: 3 – Wayland Baptist (TX): 2
TMC opened up with a dogfight Friday morning against Wayland Baptist University (TX), taking the Pioneers in five sets (25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 11-25, 15-13), lifting their 2013 record to 8-1.
Samantha Dougherty (Madera, CA) finished the match with 20 kills, Aubrey Bekendam (Orland, CA) notched 45 kills, while Rebecca Peluffo (La Crescenta, CA) produced 16 digs. Aubrey Pyburn (Burbank, CA) claimed 13 kills, and Bekendam and Ashley Newton (Henderson, NV) each chipped in 10 kills.
Total, TMC tallied 71 digs, earning the squad a .331 attack percentage. The Lady Mustangs also tallied 58 assists and 53 digs and 11 service aces.
#9 The Master’s College: 1 – Menlo: 3
The Lady Mustangs dropped their second match of the season against Menlo College in four sets (25-20, 27-25, 27-29, 19-25) on Friday night, cutting their record to 8-2.
At the end of the match, Dougherty led the stat sheet with 18 kills, followed by Bekendam with 37 assists. Peluffo tallied 24 digs in the loss.
Collectively, the Navy Blue and Gold recorded 51 kills, 44 assists, and 77 digs.
#9 The Master’s College: 3 – Mills: 0
Rebounding from their second loss of the season, TMC took their aggression out on Mills College in three quick sets (25-11, 25-4, 25-7) Saturday morning, extending their season record to 9-2.
A herd of Lady Mustangs got valuable playing time in the shellacking. Bekendam led with 11 kills, and Shaniah Gist (Camarillo, CA) produced 19 assists. Pyburn earned nine digs, with Emily Clark (Lake Forest, CA) close behind with eight.
At the end of the match, TMC posted 35 kills, a .500 attack percentage, 33 assists, and 29 digs.
#9 The Master’s College: 3 – William Jessup: 0
For the second time this year, TMC faced future GSAC member, William Jessup University on Saturday afternoon. And just like the first time the two teams met back on August 23, TMC took the Warriors in three quick sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-10).
Dougherty led the Lady Mustangs with nine kills, followed by Pyburn with seven. Bekendam highlighted the stat sheet with six kills, earning a 1.000 attack percentage. Bekendam also tallied 25 assists and 10 digs, while Peluffo earned 11 digs.
The Lady Mustangs finished with 35 digs, a .372 attack percentage, 29 assists, and 45 digs.
TMC will now enjoy a much deserved ten-day break, where the will prepare to host St. Katherine College in a tune-up scrimmage on Tuesday, September 17 at Bross Court. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
