Freshman Frankian Fourth, Fulfills Program First

May 23, 2013

Marion, INDIANA. – Phenomenal?

Historic?

Trailblazer?

Absolutely.

In the 10,000-meter final at the NAIA Track & Field Championships, Karis Frankian (Saugus, CA) capped off a phenomenal freshman year, finishing fourth overall with a time of 36:26.04. By doing so, she raises the bar of the Lady Mustangs track program by becoming the first-ever NAIA Track All-American.

Humble?

Content?

Thankful?

Absolutely.

Satisfied?

Self-absorbed?

Impressed by her accomplishment?

Not at All.

In fact, Karis could be observed, post-race, walking around the track seeking out each competitor personally to congratulate them. You see she understands that each of the 20 runners in the 10,000-meter final were among the NAIA elite. Particularly, she was looking for teammate Katrina Graham as she crossed the finish line so she could continue the camaraderie and support she enjoys on a daily basis with her Mustang running mates.

Karis Frankian is performing at a level that is usually reserved for upperclassmen at the nation's elite distance running programs. If only she weren't a freshman, both statements would be true.
