PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Lady Mustangs took to the road to face conference newcomer Arizona Christian (4-10, 0-2 GSAC), and triumphed with a 100-47 victory to raise their season record to a spotless 15-0 (2-0 GSAC).

The lopsided victory began at the 18:21 mark when Jacquelyn Marshall (San Clemente, CA) ignited a 17-0 run with a fastbreak in the paint.  Zoe Scott (Spokane, WA) led the charge with two three-pointers, while Whitney Best (Snohomish, WA) tallied a trey of her own.

The Firestorm got on the board with 15 minutes left to play, but was eclipsed in the next four minutes by the Lady Mustangs’ 13-6 burst that showcased four successful Millie Rivera (Allen, TX) free throws, a three-pointer from Kimberly Iverson (San Marcos, CA), and three jumpers from Shannon Kingery (West Hills, CA) to cap things off at 30-6.

But the Lady Mustangs were far from done.  TMC took off once again, outscoring the Firestorm 20-16 in the last 11 minutes of the half.  Scott’s jumper started the run, and Nichole Nitake’s (Torrance, CA) successful free-throws seconds before the half extended TMC’s lead to 50-24.

At intermission, Scott’s 12 points led all scorers, while Marshall, Millie & Lena Rivera, and Kingery had six apiece as the Lady Mustangs connected on 39% (18-46) of their shots, including 100% (10-10) on free throws.

TMC’s defense made its impression early on as the squad tallied 27 rebounds (13 offensive, 14 defensive) and 12 steals in the opening 20 minutes.  Kingery led with five rebounds, while Marshall and Kelly Burns (Yorba Linda, CA) each claimed four.

The Lady Mustangs continued their relentless attack in the final 20 minutes as the Blue & Gold cracked the century mark with 56 seconds left on the clock off an Olivia Thompson (Huntington Beach, CA) layup.

Theresa Brown (Eugene, OR) started the half by sinking two free throws 30 seconds into play.  Brown led the Lady Mustangs in the second stanza with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Millie Rivera was perfect behind the arc (2-2) in the second half as the sophomore guard sunk her first three-pointer at the 8:43 mark, followed by another trey with 7:56 left to play.  A Rivera layup with 4:10 left to play made it 93-36, giving the Lady Mustangs their largest lead of 57 points.

Six of the Lady Mustangs scored in double digits, with Millie Rivera leading the way with 16 points (4-4 behind the line).  Marshall, who went 5-8 from the field, followed with 13 points, while Brown tallied 12 more and yanked down a team-high 12 rebounds, earning her second double-double of the season.  Scott and Lena Rivera (Allen, TX) also claimed 12 points each, while Iverson chipped in 10 more.

The Lady Mustangs will return to Bross Gym for a showdown against conference rival Concordia (4-10, 2-0 GSAC) Tuesday at 4:00 PM.
