PALO ALTO, Calif -- For the first time in the history of The Master’s College track program, the Mustangs had the privilege of entering two athletes into the prestigious Stanford Invitational, held in Palo Alto, CA.
The Mustang duo of Anthony Pizzo and John Gilbertson qualified in the 5k and 10k, racing in the 5k on Friday, April 6th. Racing in the second fastest of four heats of the men’s 5000m, program history was made for The Master’s College as the duo worked in tandem with Pizzo setting a new school record of 14:03.57, followed by Gilbertson with 14:04.86.
Competing amongst a variety of professional athletes and some of the best NCAA division I athletes in the nation, Pizzo and Gilbertson were the only representatives of the NAIA in their respective heat. The pair raced well and crossed the finish line 13 and 14 seconds off the provisional qualifying mark for the US Olympic Trials in the 5k. The Mustang duo looks to break 14 minutes with their next opportunity on the track, and continue to lead The Master’s College distance squad to new heights.
Both Men’s and Women’s track programs will be back in the lanes Saturday, April 14th 2012, in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational held in Pomona, CA.
