MARION, Ind. --On the first day of the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, TMC’s David Eller (Los Angeles, CA) and Matthew Crichton (Mission Viejo) competed in the first of two preliminary heats of the men's 3000m steeplechase.
This was the second national appearance on the track for the sophomore Crichton who qualified in the same event as a freshman, but just the first outing for teammate and fellow second-year runner. The duo had good position through the first half of the race, but suffered greatly over the final laps. In what proved to be an uncharacteristically off day for the two men, Crichton and Eller finished in 8th and 11th places, respectively, with neither one advancing to Saturday's final.
Tomorrow NAIA standouts John Gilbertson (Saugus, CA) and Anthony Pizzo (Canyon Country, CA) will race in the preliminary heat of the men's 5000m run. The men will enter the competition ranked third and fifth, respectively, on the NAIA National Performance List.
