Two days after narrowly missing out on a shutout, TMC goalie Andrew Bussell made sure there would be no late spoiler on Thursday evening as the Mustangs recorded a 2-0 victory over host Embry Riddle in Prescott, Arizona.
Coupled with Tuesday's season-opening win over Marymount, the Mustangs are now 2-0.
Bussell, who allowed a Marymount goal with three minutes remaining in the Mustangs' 6-1 victory on Tuesday, didn't suffer the same fate against the Eagles on the way to his second career shutout.
Meanwhile, his teammates gave him all the breathing room he would need with a pair of first-half goals. Freshman Jonathan Taves scored the match's first goal 7:14 into play in unassisted fashion. It was his second goal in as many matches.
Then, with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half, junior forward Marcelo Silva took a pass from Jorge Serrano and pushed the ball past Eagle keeper Jeremy Meduvsky for the final score of the game.
After that it was just a matter of controlling play which the Mustangs did to the tune of a 13-5 shot advantage. Bussell finished up with one save.
The Mustangs continue their quick road trip to Prescott Friday evening when they face Texas-Brownsville.
