Newton, Kan. – The Master’s College golf team opened their 2013-14 campaign Monday and Tuesday in Newton, Kansas, at the Mid-South Invitational located on the greens of the Sand Creek Station Golf Course.

Collectively, the Mustangs culled a team score of 930 (308, 310, 312), finishing fourth out of a field of five teams.

Thane Ringler (Hutchinson, KS) led TMC with a fourth place finish at 6-over 222 (71, 77, 74).

“Thane continues to play solidly,” commented seventh-year head coach Jason Semelsberger.

Nolan Sand (Hoquiam, WA) tied for 20th at 235 (76, 77, 82), while newcomer Joseph Downey (Santa Clarita, CA) tied for 22nd at 236 (81, 78, 80).  Joshua Gardella (Littleton, CO) finished 24th at 261 (80, 78, 80), while Matt Kim (Yorba Linda, CA) placed 28th at 261 (88, 92, 81).

“The freshmen received a baptism by fire as the golf course and weather conditions were very tough,” said Semelsberger. “This is good learning opportunity for us to grow as a team.”

Next on the Mustangs’ slate is the California State Intercollegiate classic hosted by the University of Laverne at the Diamond Valley Golf Course on September 23.
