Santa Clarita, CA—Concordia University’s Cole Swanson is making his presence felt in the GSAC. Friday afternoon on Reese Field, the San Diego State transfer notched his second complete-game victory of the season, shutting out the The Master’s College 4-0.
Mustang hitters continued to struggle, getting shut out for the fourth time this season. Swanson allowed three hits, struck out six, and walked two. The Eagles backed Swanson with seven hits including Cody Smith’s solo home run in the ninth.
A.J. Work (3-1) pitched seven innings for the Mustangs, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits. While admitting that the lack of run support makes pitching more difficult, the senior stayed positive, stating, “It’s a lot easier to throw when you have a lead…when it’s tied (it’s) a little harder, you put more pressure on yourself… (but) tomorrow is a new day… (you have to) prove to yourself that you’re not the team that you were yesterday…prior at-bats, prior games don’t mean anything…we will be fine.”
The Mustangs (7-4 overall, 3-4 in GSAC) will play a doubleheader against Concordia Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
