Eric Carampatan made his Sydney Opera House debut as baritone soloist in Vaughan Williams’s Dona Nobis Pacem under the baton of composer Eric Whitacre in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Carampatan was a featured soloist with The Sound of America in Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland and was a guest recitalist for China’s Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Grand Theater, and Central Conservatory of Music Beijing. Carampatan appeared as guest artist in the Hoku Concert Series in Kona, Hawaii.

On the concert stage, Carampatan has been a soloist in such major works as Orff’s Carmina Burana (Glendale Concert Singers), Händel’s Messiah(Tehacthapi Symphonic Chorale, Ojai Chorus & Orchestra, Imperial Valley Chorale), Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass(Windsong Southland Chorale), Dubois’ Seven Last Words of Christ, Finzi’s In Terra Pax(Mountainside Master Chorale), Copland’s Old American Songs(Ojai Chorus & Orchestra), Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem (Antelope Valley Symphony).

A champion of new music, Carampatan created the roles of Arete in the world premiere of Whitacre’s Paradise Lost: Opera Electronica, Reporter Four and Bill Foster (cover) in the premiere of Stephen Schwartz’s Séance on a Wet Afternoon with Opera Santa Barbara, and FDR in the premiere of Kenneth Well’s The First Lady at UCLA. Carampatan starred as le Marquis d’Herigny in the West Coast premiere of Auber’s Manon Lescaut(Lyric Opera Los Angeles) at the historic Los Angeles Theater. With Long Beach Opera, Carampatan performed M. Baryton in the West Coast premiere of Poulenc’s Les Mamelles de Tiresias and as a soloist in Phillip Glass’ Akhnaten. Exceptionally committed to fusing drama and music, his roles span from the comedic title roles in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro (Center Stage Opera), Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia(Walton Arts Center) and Maximillian in Bernstein’s Candide to the more serious roles of Giorgio Germont in Verdi’s La Traviata and Chou-En Lai in Adams’ Nixon in China (Antelope Valley Symphony).

An artist prized for versatility, Carampatan has performed jazz and “popera/crossover” concerts at Luxor Las Vegas and Hilton Chicago. Equally at home in outdoor concert venues, Carampatan headlined in Santa Barbara’s Opera Under the Stars for six seasons and Muse/ique Counter-Conventional Orchestra at the Los Angeles Arboretum, appeared in Opera Under the Stars at Irvine Bowl with Opera Pacific and was a guest artist in Songs for a Summer Evening hosted by Geyer Coburn Hutchins and the Seattle Opera Guild. Carampatan has afforded countless students their first encounter with classical music with performances geared toward school children throughout the greater Los Angeles area, most notably in Opera in the Schools with Opera Santa Barbara. During the holiday season, he performed at Branson, Missouri’s Chateau on the Lake Resort and returned to Ojai, Santa Barbara and Pasadena to sing the baritone solos in Vaughan Williams’ Hodie and Fantasia on Christmas Carols. In addition to appearance on the Hallmark Channel, Carampatan’s solo voice can be heard in the Warner Bros./New Line Cinema motion picture The Conjuring 2. An avid educator, his students have consistently received top awards at the national level in competitions such as Classical Singer and the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition. He maintains a full studio roster at The Masters’ University as well as California Baptist University Schools of Music where he will direct Opera Production in Fall 2019. Carampatan holds a BM from Azusa Pacific University School of Music in Los Angeles, CA.
