This program is designed for students who want to work in one of the world’s most dynamic and exciting fields — sports. This might mean climbing the ranks of an NBA team’s analytics division, crunching numbers that will help players perform at an optimal level every night. Or it could mean organizing recreational leagues that introduce children to an activity that will provide them with a lifetime of memories and friendships. Our curriculum will prepare students to serve at all levels of competition and in a variety of ways. And our faculty members possess a network of contacts that can help make dream careers a reality. This program will also facilitate the development of strong leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, communication, and networking skills that will serve students well in sports — or in numerous other career paths in the ever-changing job landscape. This B.S. in Sport Management will be designed to meet, and exceed, the “Common Professional Components” of the Sport Management Accreditation Body (COSMA) related to the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM).
Students enrolled in the Sport Management major shall in an ideal format take three to four Sport Management courses per year, (2 in the Fall Semester/1-2 in the Spring Semester), each academic year, in a sequenced manner, over the course of eight semesters. The program will be designed with flexibilities built in to accommodate dual enrollment high school students, transfer students, as well as online & distance learning students.
Students will be required to take 39 Sport Management Core units, (including 3 Professional Cycling Event Experience units and 3 Professional Internship Experience units), 34 General Education units, 21 Bible units, 6 Accounting units (Accounting I & II), 3 units of Business Communication (MGT330), with an option for one Business Emphasis with a minimum of 15 units, and the necessary remaining Elective units to total 125 units required to graduate.
