I graduated from TMC in 2005 with a Bachelor of Music degree. I’ve served vocationally in church music ministry for a number of years and I’m excited to see what God has for me as I return to Master’s. I married the girl of my dreams, Jessica (whom I met while at TMC), in 2006 and we don’t have kids yet, but we somehow accumulated four pets…
What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
Ephesians 2:1-5 “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience among whome we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ - by grace you have been saved –“
I love this passage because it’s a crystal clear snapshot of the gospel and reminds me of my spiritual reality of being brought out of death into eternal life!
Who would you consider your role model?
My parents, for sure. Also, the various local pastors that have shepherded me throughout my life.
How did your college experience change you?
I had a great college experience at TMC. I really saw how a commitment to the Word of God affects every area of life and that Christianity was not segregated to Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. My time there sparked a love for the local church and for music ministry that continues to this day.
What’s your favorite local place to eat?
I definitely dig a number of local spots, but lately I’ve been crazy about Urbane Café and their Grilled Portabello Mushroom sandwich…mmmm.
What are some of your hobbies and/or interests?
My wife is my number one hobby/interest and we love spending time doing all kinds of things together: reading; watching movies; going to visit our horse, Storm, at the barn; taking our dogs to the beach; etc. Music is my other passion and I enjoy writing, recording, and playing it often, as well as going to concerts with Jess.
What is your favorite spot on the TMC campus?
As a student, I loved hanging in the caf with my roommate, Peter. We’d get there when it opened for dinner and stay ‘til it closed, eating, drinking coffee, and laughing a lot!
What CD is in your CD player right now?
CDs? I actually rarely listen to CDs anymore thanks to Spotify on my iPhone! My musical taste is all over the place so I love sampling a little bit of everything, but if I was stuck on the proverbial desert island with a few records, I’d definitely stick with Radiohead, U2, and Gungor.
What is your favorite coffee drink?
I love coffee pretty much any way it can be had: black, with cream & sugar, iced, espresso shot, Frappuccino…you name it, I probably like it.
What book are you currently reading?
I’m actually finishing up The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, and also reading Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hildebrand; War of Words by Paul Tripp; and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
Who was your favorite college professor at TMC?
Even though I was not an English major, I loved the class I had with Grant Horner. He has continued to be trusted mentor and counselor, and he has become a close friend of mine and my wife’s.
