Financial Aid Now Available for Online Courses
By Bob Dickson
The Master's College, recognized by U.S. News and World Report as an education leader among all colleges in the western United States, is now making it easier for students from across the country - and hemispheres - to attend via its TMC Online program.
School
officials announced that it is now offering financial aid for
distance learners, as well as a new, discounted per-unit rate for
high school students.
"By making financial aid available to online learners, The Master's College is making it possible for students interested in a Christian education to pursue it here, regardless of where they live," said TMC Online Director James Mclaughlin. "This step removes the [financial] impediments."
In the past students opting to take classes exclusively online were unable to dip into the same monetary pool as all the other students. While taking classes online is less expensive than taking classes via the traditional route, the lack of financial aid had been, for many, prohibitive.
Not anymore.
Procuring financial aid for distance online students allows the college age and working adult student to begin their Master's College education where they live. This affords more flexibility before relocating to the college to finish their degree.
Today, the college offers 14 general education courses through its TMC Online program, including English Literature, World History I, Old and New Testament, Biblical Counseling, Theology, Life of Christ, Critical Thinking and English Composition. Classes in development include World Literature I, Biblical Interpretation, Principles of Biology, U.S. History and U.S. Government (click here for a full list of current offerings).
Any student enrolled in at least six semester units (typically two classes) and maintains a grade point average of at least 2.0 can apply for financial aid. The cost per unit to attend online is $250, which amounts to $750 for most courses.
TMC Online courses are also available to current high school students at a discounted rate of $150 per unit.
"We've made courses available to high school students who are looking to get a jump on their college education and maybe save some money along the way," Mclaughlin said. "These units will transfer to whatever college those students choose to attend, so it cuts down the cost and the time of their schooling."
