Volleyball Sits at 13

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Texas at Brownsville remains the unanimous No. 1 choice in the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The Scorpions received all 23 first-place votes and tallied 653 points. This is the fifth-consecutive week Texas at Brownsville has earned the No. 1 rating.

Remaining at the No. 2 position is Concordia (Calif.), who received 632 points. Columbia (Mo.) stays at No. 3 as the Cougars tallied 610 points. Biola (Calif.) holds at No. 4 after receiving 591 points and rounding out the top five is Westmont (Calif.) with 552 points.

Two newcomers join the week three poll are No. 23 Cornerstone (Mich.) and No. 24 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho). Both teams have spent time in the Top 25 this season.

Georgetown (Ky.) made the biggest improvement in the poll, jumping nine spots from No. 25 to No. 16 following a 5-0, week including two wins against teams now in the Top 25. The Tigers defeated No. 12 Grand View, 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21) and No. 23 Cornerstone 3-2 (25-13, 26-24, 15-25, 22-25, 18-16) in the Homestead-Holiday Inn Invitational.

Two programs, Bellevue (Neb.) (No. 23) and Lubbock Christian (Texas) (No. 21), fell out of this week's poll.

Fifteen conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are represented throughout the Top 25, led by the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) with four ranked teams. Representing the GSAC are Concordia, Biola, Westmont and No. 13 The Master's (Calif.)

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents. The fourth regular-season poll will be announced on Sept. 25.
