Three Weeks at 13

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Texas at Brownsville remains at the top spot in the fourth edition of the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The Scorpions were 3-0 last week and received 21 of 22 first-place votes and collected 622 points. This is the sixth-consecutive week Texas at Brownsville has been ranked No. 1.

In the 3-0 week for the Scorpions, they defeated Wayland Baptist (Texas)(19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-18), Southwest (N.M.)(25-19, 25-10, 25-11) and Lubbock Christian (Texas) (25-22, 25-27, 25-17, 25-17). Texas at Brownsville only dropped two sets in three games.

The rest of the top five remains the same as last week's edition. Concordia (Calif.) earned the last first-place vote garnered 602 points. No. 3 Columbia (Mo.) earned 582, No. 4 Biola (Calif.) notched 562 points and No. 5 Westmont (Calif.) tallied 538 points to round out the top five.

No team made a significant jump within the rankings as only five Top-25 squads improved their positions. No. 17 Madonna (Mich.), No. 18 Indiana East, No. 20 Viterbo (Wis.), No. 21 Midland (Neb.) and No. 22 Cornerstone (Mich.) all moved up one spot

With a 4-1 record last week, MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) joins the Top 25 for the first time since falling out after the preseason poll. The Pioneers are ranked No. 25.

Falling from the rankings is Carroll (Mont.) (No.25).

Sixteen conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are represented throughout the Top 25, led by the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) with four ranked teams. Representing the GSAC are Concordia, Biola, Westmont and No. 13 The Master's (Calif.)

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents. The fourth regular-season poll will be announced on Oct. 2.

Former member, Fresno Pacific (Calif.), has the most No. 1 appearances with 70, followed by former member National American (S.D.) with 32 and Columbia (Mo.) with 20... Texas at Brownsville has been ranked No. 1 in 14 of the last 17 weeks...
