Three Straight Weeks at Eight

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the ninth-consecutive week, Texas at Brownsville remains the No. 1 team in the seventh edition of the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The Scorpions received 22-of-23 first-place votes and garnered 653 points to stay No. 1.

Texas at Brownsville continues to dominate Red River Athletic Conference play as the Scorpions defeated Langston (Okla.) 3-0, (25-5, 25-2, 25-3) and Bacone (Okla.) 3-0, (25-11, 25-13, 25-7) last week. Texas at Brownsville has not dropped a set in conference play and extended its NAIA best winning-streak to 27 matches. Its last loss came on Oct. 29, 2011 to Concordia (Calif.).

Nos. 2-5 remained the same as last week's edition. No. 2 Concordia (Calif.) received the final first place vote and earned 632 points, while No. 3 Columbia (Mo.) earned 611 points. No. 4 Biola (Calif.) tallied 590 points, and No. 5 Lee (Tenn.) captured 567 points.

Making the biggest jump this week was Missouri Baptist as it jumped five spots, from No. 20 to No. 15.
The Spartans were 5-1 last week with victories over Park (Mo.)(now No. 25) 3-2, (23-25, 25-18, 19-25, 28-26, 15-11), Mid-Continent (Ky.) 3-0, (25-9, 25-18, 25-15), No. 13 Grand View (Iowa) 3-1, (25-16, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19), Graceland (Iowa) 3-1, (25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17) and Bethel (Tenn.) 3-0, (25-22, 25-17, 25-15). Its lone loss came to No. 3 Columbia.

Joining the Top 25 this week are No. 23 Vanguard (Calif.) and No. 25 Park. Vanguard returns to the poll for the first time since the preseason poll. Vanguard won its only match against then-No. 11 Cal State San Marcos, 3-0, (25-15, 25-20, 25-22). Park enters the Top 25 for the first time in school history, dating back to 2000. Park went 1-1 last week, as it dropped its first match of the week, 3-2, to Missouri Baptist. The Pirates bounced back for a 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-12, 25-12) win over Stephens (Mo.).

Falling out of the poll this week is Cornerstone (Mich.) (No. 20) and Taylor (Ind.) (No.24.)

Sixteen conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are represented throughout the Top 25, led by the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) with five ranked teams. Representing the GSAC is Concordia, Biola, No. 8 The Master's (Calif.), No. 14 Westmont and Vanguard.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents. The eighth regular-season poll will be announced on Oct. 23.
