The Master's College Lady Mustangs volleyball team opened up GSAC competition on Tuesday night with a tough road match at No. 13 ranked Biola University. The entire match was a close battle, but ultimately the Eagles swept TMC to hand the Mustangs a loss in the GSAC opener.
Coach Blanken's team fell to 12-4 on the year while Biola is now 13-4 and 1-0 in the GSAC.
Sophomore Samantha Dougherty lead the way for Master's with 10 kills, and Oregon State transfer Tami Brown pitched in with a very solid match as well. TMC also out-dug Biola 40-36.
Biola was lead by Sarah McAtee who had 11 kills, while both Christine Douglas and Chelsee Arnitz each had eight kills.
The first set was a back and forth battle. Biola led at one point 22-19, but TMC stormed back to take a 23-22 lead. The Eagles scored three straight points however to take the first set.
The Lady Mustangs had an early lead in the second set, but the Eagles got stronger as the game went on which proved to be too much for the Mustangs. The Lady Mustangs made it interesting in the end before the Eagles closed out the game on a two-point run to win 25-21.
The third set was tied up at 13 when Biola went on a decisive 12-6 run to end the match.
The Lady Mustangs will return to the court Saturday night at 7 pm in Bross Gym for their GSAC home opener against Hope International.
