Santa Clarita, Calif.- The Master’s College volleyball team took a tough loss on Saturday evening. Biola recorded a clean sweep of the Lady Mustangs on senior night by a score of 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-20). The loss sets TMC’s record at 19-14 (7-11).
Rachel Taylor had a team high eight kills for TMC while Jenna Kapuscinski had a .455 hitting percentage. Alyssa Gergins had 13 assists, and Jamie Long chipped in with 12 assists for the Lady Mustangs. Rebecca Gieske had 17 digs.
The first set looked like it was going to be close the whole way as Biola would work its way to a 12-11 lead near the midway point. That is where the set got away from the Lady Mustangs as Biola would take control and never let up. The visitors would go on a 13-4 run to close out the set at 25-16 and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Biola would continue to have their way early on in the second set as they stormed out to an 8-2 lead. The Lady Mustangs did not give in but instead answered with a 7-1 run to even the set at 9-9. Despite that run, Biola would bounce right back and answer with their own run that would not end until the set was over. During the final stretch of the set the Eagles would outscore the Lady Mustangs 16-8. The final margin was 25-17.
The third set was a lot like the first. Neither team would allow the other to gain much of a lead until late in the set when Biola found its rhythm. With the score tied at 18-18, TMC got a kill from Ashley Newton to put them ahead by one point. That would prove to be the last real highlight for Master’s though as Biola would go on another run to close out a set. This time the visitors scored seven out of the last eight points of the set to win 25-20 and take the match 3-0.
The Lady Mustangs will now host an NCCAA Regional match on Tuesday night.
