SANTA CLARITA, Ca --
The 2011 Lady Mustangs (20-15) earned new found respect in the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) during a campaign that yielded its first winning season since 2004 and the first 20-win season in nearly a decade. Master’s Volleyball last reached the 20-win plateau in 2002 when the team finished 22-16.
Junior Tori Callihan (Simi Valley/Grace Brethren High School) has been collecting post season accolades from multiple sources during the past month. The middle blocker earned 1st Team All-GSAC honors in late November and was selected to the 2011 Tachikara-National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-America team as an Honorable Mention in early December.
Last week, Callihan was selected to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) 1st Team All-American Team while sophomore libero Rebecca Gieske (La Crescenta/Village Christian High School) was tabbed as a 2nd Team selection.
Collectively, the team finished the season receiving votes for inclusion in the NAIA top 25 ratings. 2011 marks the first time the Volleyball squad has reached this notoriety since joining the GSAC in 2001.
