PHOENIX, Ariz.- The Master’s College volleyball team took a match against Golden State Athletic Conference newcomer Arizona Christian (7-11, 0-5 GSAC) in three sets on Saturday night (25-10, 25-12, 25-16). The win advances the Lady Mustangs overall record to 18-2, and 4-1 in GSAC play.
The Mustangs were a bit slow to start, but put well placed scoring spurts together that ultimately captured their first set win. Most notably in the first set was TMC’s 12 unanswered points that aided in the 25-10 routing.
TMC kept the pressure on all game against the Firestorm with one late kill by Stacey Jones (Scottsdale, AZ) to win the second set at 25-13. The Mustangs hit .615 in the second frame.
Set three saw similar results as the other two as TMC entered motivated to sweep ACU and head back home to California. The Mustangs executed their plan with haste and would only allow the Firestorm to score off 10 kills in the third and final set. In addition, TMC also held ACU to an attack percentage of 0.94 and would dominate in every aspect en route to a 25-16 win.
Aubrey Bekendam (Orland, CA) had a team high 17 assists, and Rebecca Peluffo (La Crescenta, CA) had 14 digs to lead TMC. Tori Callihan (Simi CA) lead the way with nine kills as Stacey Jones hit a .500.
TMC now travels back home only to prepare for Thursday's road contest against #2 Concordia. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
