Women's Soccer Schedule Announced

June 14, 2012

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -- The Master’s College Athletic Department has released the 2012 women’s soccer schedule.

"Our first few games will be a great indication of how our season will go,” said sixth-year head coach Curtis Lewis.  “We’re playing against Concordia of Oregon which lost in the championship game of the NAIA Tournament last year,Women's Soccer-Bobbie Roberts Trinity Christian which finished eighth in the nation, and a quality team from Southern Oregon. If we can get three wins out of the first three games that would be massive and probably catapult us into the nation’s top 10.“

Out of the Lady Mustang’s 18 regular-season matches, three of them will be against teams featured in the 2011 NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Postseason Top 25 Poll.  The first of those will come on August 18 when the Mustangs host Trinity Christian of Illinois in the season opener.  The Trolls finished 16-4-2 last year and earned a No. 15 slot in the final Top 25 poll.

Eight days later, the Lady Mustangs travel to Portland, Oregon, to take on Concordia University.  The national championship runner-up Cavaliers concluded their 2011 campaign at 19-5-1 and finished No. 2 in the 2011 NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Postseason Top 25 Poll.

The Mustangs cap off their grueling, early-season slate on August 29 when they play at Cal State San Marcos, facing a Cougar squad that went 14-4-1 in 2011 and wound up as the nation's 11th-ranked team.

“We have a lot of home games this year,” Lewis stated.  “Having a schedule that’s loaded with home games is a great opportunity for our fans and the players parents to come out and watch us.”

The Lady Mustangs went 11-10-1 in 2011, finishing 4-5 in the Golden State Athletic Conference.  Coach Lewis and his Mustangs will begin their 2012 campaign with the home opener against Trinity Christian on August 18 at 1:00 PM.

“We’re excited to have a team of depth and leadership with seniors and we’re hoping to make a great run at it {National Championships}.”
