The Master’s College women’s soccer team notched a huge win to advance in the GSAC Conference Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.  After the game ended in a 1-1 tie, TMC went on to win in a shoot-out.  With the win, the Lady Mustangs record is now 10-8-1 and Biola goes to 10-6-1 on the season.

The lone goal of the game came very early for Coach Lewis’s team.  Jessica Long took a loose ball off a corner kick from Danielle Hollinger and knocked it to the back of the net for her third goal in two games.  The goal came in the eighth minute of play.

Master’s would not stay in front for long, however.  In the 13th minute of the game, Jessica Austin took an assist from Sarina Coutin which left Austin with only the goalie to beat.  Austin would bury the goal to knot the game at 1-1.

The first half was statistically dominated by the visiting Lady Mustangs.  TMC outshot Biola 5-1 in shots on goal in the first half.  TMC had great offensive pressure the whole half.

The second half of the match was a little more even as the Eagles outshot the Lady Mustangs 2-1.  Neither team could find the back of the net in the second half, however, which lead to overtime.

The first overtime looked a lot like the first half as TMC would dominate offensively but to no avail.  The Lady Mustangs had four shots on goal in the ten minute half.

In the second overtime, neither team got much going offensively as there was only one shot between the two teams.  The lack of a game-winning goal for either side pushed the game into a shoot-out.

The hero of the overtime periods for Master’s was their defense as they would not allow the Eagles to get a shot on goal for the full twenty minutes of overtime play.  Biola only managed three shots on goal the entire game.

In the shoot-out, each team would make their first shot.  Then things got interesting as TMC would make their next shot and Ilyssa Espiritu had a crucial save for the Lady Mustangs to give them a 2-1 advantage.

Kayla Davis would shoot next for Master’s but couldn’t find the net which left the door open for Biola.  The Eagles would capitalize on that and knot the shoot-out at 2-2.

Natasha Coyle would make her attempt to put Master’s up 3-2, and then Biola could not do the same which meant that the Lady Mustangs could win the match by making their next shot.  Bobbie Roberts would do just that and the Lady Mustangs took the victory to eliminate the Eagles.
