The No. 15-rated Lady Mustangs soccer team went on the road Saturday to open GSAC conference play and handed Vanguard its first loss of the season, 4-2. With the victory, TMC improves to 7-3 (1-0) while the Lions fall to 8-1 (0-1.)
Vanguard went ahead early on in the match with a goal in the tenth minute. Lindsey Holmankelley netted the goal unassisted.
About ten minutes later however, TMC knotted the game on a deflected corner kick from Danielle Hollinger. It was Hollinger's first goal of the season.
The Lady Mustangs struck again in the 40th minute of play. It was another corner kick off the foot of Hollinger, but this time it deflected off of Kristyn Richards right into the net.
Vanguard came back to tie the game in the 67th minute when Amanda Couch took a mishandled ball from TMC's goalie, Ilyssa Espiritu. Couch scored from one yard out.
From that point forward it was all Lady Mustangs. Bobbie Roberts took a loose ball in the 74th minute and scored for her first goal of the year. Coach Lewis's team was up for good after that.
The final highlight of the match happened in the last minutes of the game. Natasha Coyle scored an unassisted goal from 10 yards out to give the Lady Mustangs the 4-2 lead.
Master's is now 1-0 early in the GSAC campaign. They will travel to play at Westmont on Tuesday, October 4th at 3:00 pm.
