The Master's College women's soccer team lost a very well-played game on senior day Wednesday afternoon to Biola. The Lady Mustangs were sharp offensively and defensively but came up just short to drop their record to 9-8 (3-5) while the Eagles record goes to 9-6 (6-2).
The Lady Mustangs came out with great offensive pressure which produced many scoring opportunities in the first half. The defense for TMC did a great job of limiting Biola's chances in the first half as well, but Biola still managed to get on the board late in the half.
The Eagles had a few shots that went just wide of the goal. Ilyssa Espiritu had an outstanding save in the 38th minute to keep the game tied at 0-0.
In the 44th minute, Biola struck first to take the lead into half-time. Michella Andre played a long ball down the middle of the field to Chrissy King. King took one touch at the top of the box and netted the goal to put the Eagles in front.
Coach Lewis's team came out firing in the second half. The Lady Mustangs had plenty of chances which kept the Eagles goalie busy. The home team played great defensively in the second half too as they limited the Eagles to very few offensive chances. The Lady Mustangs continued to battle and put themselves in scoring situations, and it eventually paid off.
Fittingly enough, it was a senior that put the home team on the board. Bobbie Roberts took a pass from Natasha Coyle and blasted a goal from the top of the box to tie the score in the 86th minute. The late game heroics from Roberts would send the game into overtime tied 1-1.
The first overtime turned out to be uneventful for both sides as neither team could put the game away.
Biola had a free kick in the 102nd minute of the game that would prove to be the final highlight. Victoria Dalla Zanna would send a long ball into the box and Jessica Austin put away the game winner.
Master's will play their final game of the season on the road at San Diego Christian on Saturday.
