September 6, 2012

Box Score:

SANTA CLARITA, Calif – In the second match of the round-robin style 2012 Mustang Classic tournament, the Lady Mustangs and the William Jessup University Warriors squared off and tied 0-0 in double overtime, bringing TMC's overall record to 3-1-2.

Both teams displayed impeccable defense with outstanding saves by each squad's goalies. For the Mustangs, Ilyssa Espiritu (Bakersfield, CA) anchored TMC by notching three saves. Shea Richards (Palmdale, CA) led the team with five shots on goal and 12 shot attempts. Gia Loza (Corona, CA) and Kaili Sholin (Soldotna, AK) both had two shots on goal for the Mustangs.

Collectively, the Mustangs had 27 shots, 12 on goal and nine corner kicks. If anything, Thursday's match against the finely-tuned Warriors showed the importance of putting opportunities away early.

The Mustangs will take to the pitch on Saturday at Reese Field with a 1:00 match against the Bethany College Swedes.
