Santa Clarita, CA - The Master’s College women’s basketball team opened up their regular season with a 76-59 victory over Simpson University on Friday night in Bross Gym. The Lady Mustangs record is 1-0 after the 17-point victory.
Master’s was led by Zoe Scott who had 18 points on 4-7 shooting from the field while making three baskets from behind the arc.Morgan Schwegler shot 50 percent from the field and had 13 points for TMC. Lena Rivera had a game high seven assists.
The first half was close throughout. The Lady Mustangs shot 31 percent from the field on the way to a five point lead at halftime. That lead could have been bigger but TMC had some costly turnovers that lead to points for Simpson.
The offense came alive for Master’s in the second half. After losing their lead for a short time, Coach Waldeck’s squad stormed back and never let up as they shot 50 percent over the final 20 minutes of the game. The hot shooting from TMC allowed them to open up a double digit lead that they continued to build until the game was over. The final score was 76-59.
Ball control was an issue for both teams as Master’s had 29 turnovers in the game but was topped by Simpson who had 31.
The Lady Mustangs get back to work on Saturday night as they host La Sierra at 7:00 pm in Bross Gym.
