Becker, Zarestsky Bright Spots in Season Opener
Thousand Oaks, CA -- Maggie Becker (Graveview, WA / Klahowya HS) and Abbie Zaretsky (Santa Monica / Santa Monica HS) won their respective singles matches in 3rd set tiebreakers, but the Mustangs succumbed to Cal Lutheran by a team score of 7 -2 at the Poulson Tennis Center. The Regals had already clinched the team match by the time the Mustangs broke through and captured the two singles matches.
Playing in the #1 singles match, Becker won the first set 7-6 (7-5), before getting pushed back in the second set 2-6. She was able to outlast Kim Kolibas in the super tiebreaker 1-0 (10-5). Zaretsky won in strikingly similar fashion over Lauren Toohey 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5).
The Mustangs dropped all three double matches, with the duo of Tiffany Man (La Crescenta) and Becker falling 8-5 to Kim Kolibas and Holly Beaman who are tabbed as #14 in the ITA Pre-season West Region Rankings.
The Mustangs return to non-conference action Saturday, February 4th in Pasadena against Cal Tech. The match start time is set for 11:00 am.
