KANSAS CITY, Mo. – John Gilbertson (Saugus, CA) has been named the "NAIA National Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week", the national office announced Wednesday. Gilbertson was selected based on his performances from March 25 – 31.
Gilbertson, a senior, established a new world’s fastest mark in the 10K at the NCAA Division I Stanford Invitational on March 29. He finished the 10K in 28 minutes and 30.35 seconds, winning the event. His time surpassed Elroy Gelant (South Africa), who previously held the world’s fastest 10K mark at 28:50.24.
Gilbertson and the Mustangs now face a plethora of races over the next five weekends that make up the bulk of their campaign. Next up for both the men’s and women’s track teams is a trip to San Marcos to compete in the Magnum Invitational, hosted by CSU San Marcos, on April 6.
