2013 (Track): Looking to finish his college campaign with what is expected to be his most decorated season to date. Gilbertson is in top shape, and is coming off an undefeated Cross Country season where he posted some of the best marks the NAIA has seen as well as being the first American in 23 years to win the national championship. He is primed to run some very big performances, and is targeting the 5,000 & 10,000-meter races, and is looking post top times in the NAIA .
2012: Posted the fastest time in the NAIA last season, and has a tremendous opportunity to chase down the very front of the nation…definitely will contend for a National Title…Coach’s look to him to lead and co-captain with teammate Anthony Pizzo and set top marks as he is a multiple NAIA All American for Cross Country and Track.
2011: With quality training in the off season, Gilbertson is ready to take on the best in the nation his junior year.
2010: John Gilbertson did just what he'd set out to do in a breakout sophomore campaign...In the fall cross country season he was the GSAC runner up, finishing 2nd place at the Conference Championship meet with a time of 24:32, and leading his team to their ultimate goal- their first GSAC Championship Title... Went on to finish 12th in the nation at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships and claimed NAIA All American honors, while helping his team to an 11th place national finish...Just kept going in the Spring of 2011, setting the school record for 5k, running an incredible 14:12 on the track at the Occidental Invitational...then became the first ever individual GSAC Champion at the Conference Championships, winning the 5000m...
2009: Claimed the 5th fastest time in school history at the 2009 UC Riverside Cross Country Invitational, posting a time of 25:37 for 8k..."Gilby" also posted 14:38.18 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in the 5k, putting him on the same platform as Anthony Pizzo...This dynamic duo proved TMC had the best 2009 freshman class in the NAIA.<
High School: Set personal bests of 16:02 at the Mt. SAC Relays, a 4:32 for the 1600 meters, and a 2:00 for the 800 meters...was selected to first-team All-Alpha League from 2005-2008...his team won the 2008 Alpha League title...was the 2009 Alpha League 1600 meter champion.
Personal: Parents are Jane and Walt Gilbertson...one older brother named Tom Gilbertson...in high school was on 2008-2009 ASB and a member of the soccer team...college Goals are to become an NAIA All-American during his time at The Master's...chose TMC to be in a community that is on fire for the Lord and to grow spiritually while being challenged mentally and physically...career Goal is to become a medical doctor...favorite Foods include all pastas and pizzas, and meats...favorite TV Shows are "The Office" and "Royal Pains"...favorite movies include "Anchorman" and "Batman: The Dark Knight"...favorite Book is the Bible....favorite hobby is hanging out with his teammates.
