Mustangs Score Goals Fifty Seconds Apart For Comeback Victory
Trailing with 20:00 to go, the Mustangs received goals :50 apart in the 70th and 71st minutes from Jonathan Taves and Zach Egeler to earn a 2-1 come from behind victory over Westminster College (UT.)
Master's appeared to be controlling the game early, keeping pressure in the Griffins end of the field, but a TMC foul allowed Westminster's Dennis Sellis a free kick. Sellis capitalized and the visitors from Utah maintained their 1-0 lead into the second half.
Rickard's squad returned to the field determined to protect their home field. The Mustang's outshot the Griffins 8-4, finally finding the back of the net with 20:00 left on Taves goal, assisted by Brett Croft.
Less than a minute later, Jorge Serrano took a pass outside the box on the left side and lofted a crossing pass. After a deflection, Zach Egeler headed the ball into the net, giving the Mustangs a lead they would not relinquish.
Andrew Bussell had four saves in goal for Master's who will play Holy Names in the second game of Invitational today at 5:00 pm.
In the earlier matchup, Holy Names upset No. 14 Biola 1-0 on a sudden death goal in the first overtime by Martin Meastratti. Biola will play Westminster, who is just outside the NAIA Top 25, at 2:30 pm before the TMC match.
