The No. 12 Mustangs (7-0) prevailed in a physical match with the visitors from Bethesda University (7-1), earning a hard fought 3-1 victory.
Both teams took seven shots in a scoreless first half that also saw both teams combine to commit 22 fouls in the half. Forty-three fouls ended up being called in the game, 23 of them against the Flames.
A key moment in the game occurred when a red card was issued to Bethesda's Lumi Kim in the 56th minute for his second caution. On the resulting set piece, Joshue Hoeft scored the game's opening goal assisted by Marcelo Silva and Fabrice Gautrat.
Master's had a great opportunity in the 66th minute when Marcelo Silva took a direct kick that was deflected off the cross bar.
The Mustangs found the net less than a minute later however when Silva found Jorge Serrano in the left corner. Serrano then lofted a crossing pass that Gautrat headed in for TMC's second goal.
Gautrat netted his second header in the 74th minute of play off a corner kick from Silva. The assist was Silva's third on the day.
Bethesda entered the scoring with 12:00 to play when Yungil Choo drove home a shot to goaltender Andrew Bussell's right from 40 yards away.
The Mustangs return to action Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm as Cal State San Marcos visits Reese Field. During halftime of the match, there will be a special presentation to honor Coach Jim Rickard for his 250th career victory.
