Deadlocked at Zero…Again
For the second time in three matches, The Master's College men's soccer team played to a scoreless tie with an opponent but Thursday's 0-0 result at Westmont had greater implications.
September 24th's tie at Cal State San Marcos was a non-conference one while Thursday's match against the Warriors was a crucial, early-season GSAC match. Two games into conference play, the Mustangs (7-1-2 overall) are 0-1-1.
Both teams had plenty of chances during regulation. The Mustangs outshot the Warriors 14-11 in that 90-minute window but the hosts held a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Freshman Zach Egeler had two of those shots on goal.
Neither side did much in the two, 10-minute overtime periods with a total of just three shots, none on goal.
One of the highlights of the tie was junior Andrew Bussell's fourth shutout of the season.
After opening GSAC play with two straight road matches, the Mustangs return to Reese Field on Saturday but it won't be an easy homecoming as No. 5 Azusa Pacific comes calling. Kickoff is set for 1:30pm.
