The Master's College

Tough Test, Passing Grade

February 29, 2012

SEQUIN, Texas --  In a San Antonio Shootout field that boasted ten of the Top 25 teams in the nation, The Master's College Men's Golf squad displayed that they belong among the nation's elite NAIA's golf programs.  The Mustangs were led by the consistent play of senior Daniel Mothershead (Santa Clarita) who finished tied for ninth with scores of 2-over 74, 1-over 73, and 2-over 74 respectively.

Coach Jason Semelsberger was pleased with the result.  "Overall, there was some progress made towards playing our best in competition.  It was very encouraging to see Daniel Mothershead finish T9th with a solid finish and Thane finish T11th in a quality field."

Thane Ringler (Hutchinson, Kansas) could have finished much higher than 11th, but he tapped down a spike mark during play and rightfully called a penalty on himself. That penalty was the difference between finishing 6th and finishing 11th.  John Lawson (Mobile, Alabama) was the next best individual finisher at T25.

As a team, the Mustangs finished tied for fourth behind the #1, #6, and #3 rated teams in the nation respectively.  The #20 ranked TMC Navy and Gold, finished either tied or ahead of the #12, #10, #13, #24, #18, and #19 ranked teams respectively.  This translates to the Mustangs defeating four teams ranked ahead of them in a head-to-head competition, which should serve The Master's very well when the next NAIA national rating is distributed on March 15th.

The Mustangs now have nearly a month off from competition until they travel to Primm, Nevada to compete at Primm Valley Golf Course on March 25-27.
