The way the Master's College's Men's Golf team has started off its Spring 2011 season gives great hope for the rest of the year. Though neither showing was the team's best performance, both outings displayed glimpses of the talent and heart that could take this squad to the top.
Showing great promise for the future of the program, freshman Thane Ringler won his first collegiate event in the Mustang's opening match with Claremont Mudd Scripps. While the Mustangs lost by six strokes to the hosts, Ringler led all individuals at -3, winning the event by one stroke.
In their second event of the Spring season, the Mustangs played in the CSU San Marcos Invitational among a field of 13 teams. This time the Mustangs overcame a poor first day showing to finish 4th - beating out GSAC contenders Cal Baptist and BIOLA (Pt. Loma also competed and finished 3rd). John Lawson (T-7) and Thane Ringler (T-9) both finished in the Top-10 to lead the Mustangs.
The Mustangs have some time to work on their game before they return to competition March 6-8 for the Point Loma Nazarene University Smee Builders Invitational in Jamul, CA.
