NAIA Men's Golf National Championship Recap: Day 3
May 24, 2012
SALEM, Ore. -- The third day of the of the NAIA National Championships held at the Creekside Golf Course in Salem, Oregon, was another turbulent one for Thane Ringler (Hutchinson, KS) as the lone Mustang carded a two-over par 74, tying him for 21st place at seven-over 223.
Starting off the third round on the 10th hole with a shocking eight, Ringler responded with a pair of birdies and a bogey before hitting it in the water on No. 17 and double-bogeying.
After sinking a tricky 10-footer to save par on No. 18 and winding up with a 42 on the front nine, Ringler’s true talent emerged over the final nine holes. The Mustang fought back and eagled the first hole, dropping a 65-foot bomb on the par 5. Shortly after, Ringler birdied No.3 and No. 7, and had three other great looks that wouldn’t go down before settling for a sparkling 32 on the back nine.
Coach Jason Semlesberger commented on Ringler’s performance by stating “I’m very proud of how he responded to the adversity today by showing guts and heart.”
Tied for 21st place going into tomorrow, Ringler is hoping to show more of the same on the tournament's final day as the lone Mustang looks to move up the leaderboard.
