Coach Jason Semelsberger's No. 15 ranked men's golf team opens the fall portion of its schedule September 26 and 27 at the California State Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by the Southern California PGA and the University of La Verne. Mustang sophomore Thane Ringler is one of the top golfers competing in the tournament.

2011 CA State Intercollegiate Hosted by the SCPGA and University of La Verne
Set to Feature Some of State's Top Golf Talent
(LA VERNE, CA)- The University of La Verne, in conjunction with the Southern California PGA Section will hosting the CA State Intercollegiate, held September 26-27 at Diamond Valley Golf Club in Hemet. The tournament features eight intercollegiate golf programs from the NCAA and NAIA collegiate levels.
The two-day event will begin with 36 holes on Monday followed by an 18-hole round to complete action on Tuesday. The Diamond Valley course has played host to several prestigious tournaments, including SCGA Qualifiers, Golden State Tour professional events, and SCPGA Tournaments.
This year's field includes the host University of La Verne, which is coming of a 15th place finish at last year's NCAA Championship, and is currently ranked #14 in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches poll. The Leopards last played at Diamond Valley in April, when they captured the program's fifth straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) crown.
The field also includes NCAA Division II members UC San Diego and Cal Baptist along with NAIA participants Cal-State San Marcos, Point Loma Nazarene University, Masters College, Arizona Christian University and Biola University. PLNU (14th), Masters (15th) and CSUSM are each ranked nationally in the NAIA Top 25 Poll.
"I'm very excited about our upcoming tournament and look forward to what I believe will be outstanding competition," said University of La Verne golf coach Eric Riehle. "Although this is the inaugural year for this tournament, I predict immense growth in future years."
Established in 1924, the SCPGA was organized to promote the enjoyment and involvement of the game of golf and contribute to its growth by providing competitive playing opportunities, educational seminars, and growth of the game initiatives. "The SCPGA is extremely involved in junior golf, amateur golf, and professional golf in the surrounding Southern California area. It is only natural to take the next step and work on a great tournament for collegiate players," said SCPGA Director of Rules and Competitions Rob Keller. "We are excited to partner with the University of La Verne and Coach Riehle in the inaugural CA State Intercollegiate."

In coordination with the 2011 event comes the announcement of the 2011 All-CA State Team. Recognizing the most outstanding players each year attending Colleges and Universities from the State of California, the All-California Team is made up of players from each Division earning GCAA All-America distinction.
