PALO ALTO, Calif. - On Saturday, The Master’s College men’s cross country team competed against some of the top teams in both the NAIA and NCAA at the 2013 Stanford Cross Country Invitational.
TMC, which ranks No. 11 in the NAIA, placed eighth among 16 non-Division 1 colleges, four places behind No. 2 Southern Oregon. John Hurd (Fairview, PA) led the way for the Mustangs with a time of 26 minutes and 29 seconds on the 8,000-meter course, placing 27th overall.
Senior Matthew Crichton (Mission Viejo, CA) was close on Hurd’s heels, placing 30th in 26:30.
The rest of the Mustangs followed as Michael Sciarra (Orange, CA), Tyler Tockstein (Canyon Country, CA), Daniel Eller (Los Angeles, CA), Josh Sherfey (Stevenson Ranch, CA), and Taylor Koh (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) posted times of 27:03, 27:25, 27:37, 27:55, and 28:11, respectively.
“In order to win conference (GSAC), we need our third, fourth, and fifth men to model John and Matt’s racing performances and form a tight pack in competition the same way we do in workouts,” remarked head coach Zach Schroeder.
After a week off, the Mustangs will toe the line at the Vanguard Invitational on October 12, 2013.
