The members of the 21st-ranked Mustangs all posted personal bests, leading to a 16th of 23 overall finish. TMC clocked a collective time of 2:06:10.90, which is currently the NAIA’s fifth-fastest team time this year.
The 8,000 meter race started with OSU taking the lead. Both Josh Sherfey (Stevenson Ranch, CA) and John Hurd (Fairview, PA) progressed throughout the race finishing 74th and 77th, respectively. Sherfey finished with a final time of 24 minutes and 51.3 seconds, while Hurd finished the race with a time of 24:54.9.
TMC’s Michael Sciarra (Orange, CA), Andrew Orona (Newhall, CA), and Ricky Buckelew (West Hills, CA) posted impressive times of 25:14, 25:28.6, and 25:42.1, respectively.
“The men showed up big today by only having a 51 second gap between our one and five along with only three seconds separating Josh and John,” stated Head Coach Zach Schroeder. “This is definitely the best team finish we have put together since 2012 where we ran 2:05:23 on this same course.”
Next Saturday, the Mustangs will compete at the West Coast Jamboree in Irvine, CA.
