IRVINE, Calif. – The Master’s College men’s cross country team placed third out of a field of 13 teams with a team time of 2:11:33.53 Saturday morning at the NAIA West Coast Jamboree.
While the 15th-ranked Mustangs finished behind No. 10 Cal State San Marcos and Carroll College, TMC beat out all other competing GSAC teams, boding well for the upcoming GSAC Championship race on November 8.
Leading the Mustangs was John Hurd (Fairview, PA), who closed the race hard by placing ninth overall with a time of 25 minutes and 45.77 seconds for the 8,000 meter course. Sophomore duo Michael Sciarra (Orange, CA) and Josh Sherfey (Stevenson Ranch, CA) were only within 20 seconds from Hurd, stealing 11th and 12th place overall with times of 25:59.86 and 26:06.47, respectively.
“It was a great opportunity to compete against some conference teams who we will be seeing in a couple of weeks at the GSAC Conference Championships,” remarked Hurd. “We are definitely looking forward to being even more tapered and prepared going into the postseason.”
The men look to win their fifth consecutive GSAC title at their home course in Santa Clarita on November 8.
