Men's Cross Country Nabs GSAC Honors

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Furthering their highly productive 2013 campaign, The Master’s College men’s cross country team has bagged a trove of GSAC honors.
On Saturday, November 9, Matthew Crichton (Mission Viejo, Calif.), John Hurd (Fairview, PA), Joshua Sherfey (Valencia, CA), and Tyler Tockstein (Santa Clarita, CA) were named to the Men’s Cross Country All-GSAC team based on their performances in the conference championship race.
Sherfey and Hurd finished one-two for the Mustangs, placing fourth and fifth overall with times of 25 minutes and 37 seconds and 25:49 for the 8,000-meter course. Crichton and Tockstein were not far behind, placing seventh and ninth with times of 25:56 and 26:07, respectively.
Earning a first-place finish, The Master’s College won its fourth consecutive conference title. As a result, head coach Zach Schroder was named the GSAC’s “Coach of the Year” award for the fourth straight year.
Based off his performance in the classroom, Hurd earned a spot on the 2013 Men’s Cross Country GSAC Scholar-Athlete list. To qualify, an athlete must be a junior or senior academically and have a cumulative GPA.
In just over a week, the 15th-ranked Mustangs will conclude their season by toeing the line at the NAIA National Cross Country Championships in Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday, November 23.
