WINONA LAKE, Ind. – In their season finale, the No. 5 Mustangs nearly upset the No. 3-ranked Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene University, losing 79-73. Leif Karlberg lead the Mustangs with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. In addition, senior Anthony Cammon contributed to the Mustangs with adding 15 points and a game-high 7 assists. Paul Brown lead the Mustangs with 8 rebounds and also scored 6 points.
Before entering the half tied at 37, Master's stayed on top until a late 10-0 run by Trevecca erased a 10-point lead. After the half, the Mustangs quickly retook the lead and went up by six. Then the Trojans Michael France, a 6-foot-2 senior scored nine points in less than four minutes to help them secure a five-point lead. Trevecca held the lead for nearly the rest of the game.
With 3:10 on the board, TMC’s Anthony Cammon sunk a pair of free throws for the Mustangs to tie the game at 66 all. However, Trojans Eric Orr scored on Trevecca's next possession. Trevecca’s France then stole the ball, went full court on a fastbreak, and dunked for two. The Trojans held onto their lead for the remaining time of play.
The Mustangs finished the 2012 campaign 20-16, and 9-9 in GSAC play. Seniors Richard LeFluer and Anthony Wells gave great leadership within the forward position, while All-GSAC team Anthony Cammon excelled as the Mustangs starting guard. With 11 Mustangs returning, including the clubs top high-scorer Leif Karlberg, prospects are high for next season.
